Carlos Manuel Hernandez

With great disbelief, we announce the sudden passing of Carlos Manuel Hernandez. He was 67 years old. Born on November 3rd,1958 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, he passed away on August 14th, 2026. He was born to Carlos Manuel Hernandez and Rosa Martinez, and step-son to Teresita Oneida Hernandez, who predeceased him. As the second oldest of five siblings, Carlos Manuel was a loving brother of Mayra Hernandez de Ramos, Carlos Alberto Hernandez, Catherine Dunn, and Terry Villamil who will miss him terribly. In the mid 1960s Carlos Manuel emigrated with this family to the United States. Once his family settled in Passaic, New Jersey, Carlos Manuel fell in love with music, after being gifted a guitar from his father. At 17 years old Carlos Manuel enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the infantry. While serving domestically in the army, he began a minor boxing career. When he left the army he spent six months in Hong Kong where he trained in Tai Chi and Eastern Philosophy. He continued studying these arts throughout his life. Upon returning from Hong Kong he met and married Mary Ellen Petrilak, who passed away in 2019. They raised two daughters, Tatiana and Rosa. Carlos Manuel had a 35+ year career in the security business. His true passions included music, cycling, boxing, and martial arts. He took great delight in sharing these hobbies with his two daughters. For the last five years, Carlos Manuel connected with the son he never knew he had, Daniel Lanton. He moved to Pennsylvania and enjoyed his last years with son and three grandchildren, Indiana, Eowyn, and Ian. May his humble spirit live on in all who knew him.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on August 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Alvarez Funeraria Inc, located at 66 Passaic Ave, Passaic, NJ. A Mass in Carlos’s honor will take place on August 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 10 Saint Francis Way, Passaic, NJ. Following the Mass, a burial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Arlington Cemetery, 748 Schuyler Avenue, Kearny, NJ.
