Diego Hortensio Obregon

Diego H. Obregon 87, of Passaic, NJ passed away on Thursday September 24, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, on January 11, 1939, to the late Juan and Julia Obregon. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lea N. Obregon; his loving children, Diego F. Obregon and his wife, Jenny, and Diana Callahan and her husband, Gary; five grandchildren, Diego W. Obregon, David Obregon, Dennis Obregon, Kevin Callahan, and Jeanine Muller; and twelve cherished great-grandchildren.

A true embodiment of the American Dream, Diego immigrated to the United States from Cuba with only the clothes on his back. Through his hard work, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit, he built, successful business and pursued various ventures, always striving to provide a better life for his family.

For more than 50 years, Diego called the community his home. Through his work, he became a familiar face to so many people as he made deliveries to candy stores, grocery stores, and local businesses. He was known as “The Candyman.” To those who knew him, Diego was so much more than a businessman; he was a friend and someone people could rely on. He was the kind of person who always had time for others, no matter what he had going on in his own life.

Diego never turned his back on someone who needed a helping hand, advice, encouragement, or simply someone to listen. He had a heart for people, and helping others brought him genuine happiness. He freely gave his time, his knowledge, and himself, never expecting anything in return.

He was passionate about living naturally and believed deeply in holistic approaches to healing and wellness. He was always learning and searching for new ways to help people feel better. Whenever someone came to him, he was eager to share an idea,a remedy, or something new he had learned. In his own way, he was always trying to make someone's life a little better.

Above all of Diego’s accomplishments and all of the people he helped, his greatest legacy will always be the love he gave to his family. He was a husband who loved deeply, a father who wanted the best for his children, and a grandfather and great-grandfather whose love will remain a part of his family forever. The memories he created, the lessons he taught, the stories he shared, and even the little things that made him who he was will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Diego had a way of making people feel cared for. His generosity, warmth, willingness to help, and big heart left an impression on countless lives. His legacy will live on through his family and through the many people in his community who were fortunate enough to know him, love him, and call him a friend.

There are no words that can truly express how deeply he will be missed. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but the love he gave us will remain forever.

Diego was truly one of a kind. The world is a little less bright without him in it, but it is a better place because he was here.

He will be loved forever, missed beyond words, and never, ever forgotten.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Alvarez, 66 Passaic Ave, Passaic, NJ 07055. A second visitation will be held on Friday, October 2nd, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the same location. A mass will be held in his name at 9:00AM at Holy Trinity Church, 226 Harrison Street, Passaic, NJ 07055. Entombment will follow at 10:45 AM at Garden of Memories, 300 Soldier Hill Rd, Washington Township, New Jersey.
