In Loving Memory of Edy Nelson Martinez
Edy Nelson Martinez, husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on September 21, 2026, at the age of 83. His passing leaves an emptiness in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, but his memory and the love he gave so freely will remain with us forever.
Edy was born on September 17, 1943, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to his mother, Candelaria Marti Perez, and his biological father, the late Pedro Martinez Sosa. He was also blessed to have Domingo Lugo Roman as his stepfather.
In 1962, he came to Passaic, New Jersey, beginning a journey that would lead to a lifetime filled with family, hard work, love, and countless memories.
Edy was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for the people he loved. He worked on the assembly line at Finkel Outdoor Products and later at Zumtobel Lighting. He believed in working hard and doing what needed to be done for his family. His hands may have spent many years working, but his heart was always with the people he loved most.
He married Maria Martinez (Rodriguez). His family was the center of his world. He was a devoted father to Elizabeth Martinez, David Martinez, his predeceased daughter, Maribel Suarez (Martinez), and Jeanette Sanchez (Martinez). Watching his family grow was one of the greatest joys of his life. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, including one predeceased granddaughter, and five great-grandchildren, who brought him a special kind of happiness and pride.
Family was everything to Edy. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family deeply. He is survived by his siblings, Beatriz Martinez, Jose (Yony) Martinez, Doris Martinez, and Eneida Casiano, along with his nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
To those who knew him, Edy was more than the roles he carried in his family. He was someone who could be counted on. He was a familiar face, a steady presence, and a person whose love was shown through the things he did for others. His life was woven into the lives of so many people, and his absence will be felt in countless ways—in family gatherings, in conversations, in memories, and in the quiet moments when those who loved him wish they could hear his voice or see his smile one more time.
Edy had a special love for cars and could often be found working on them, doing what he enjoyed with his own hands. His beloved Chevelle and black pickup truck were among his favorite things. Those who knew him will remember not only the cars he loved, but the time, patience, and pride he put into them. These simple passions were part of what made Edy who he was.
Most of all, Edy will be remembered for the love he had for his family. His greatest legacy is not measured in years or accomplishments, but in the family he helped build and the love he gave to each generation. The lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he shared will continue through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Although our hearts are heavy with his loss, we can find comfort in knowing that Edy’s love does not end with his passing. It lives on in his family, in the stories that will be told about him, in the memories that will be cherished, and in every generation that carries a piece of him forward.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
Rest peacefully, Edy. Thank you for the love, the memories, and the life you shared with us. You will forever remain in our hearts.
