James Moss

James E. Moss was born to the loving home of Elsie Lee Wells -Moss and Marvin Moss on August 18, 1947, in Rutherford, New Jersey.

James departed this life on Monday, July 10, 2026, at Clara Maas Hospital in Bellville, New Jersey. He was married to Muriel Jones until her death in 2017. James was preceded in death by his mother Elsie Moss (1995); brother Ernest Wells (1992), Father and sister Corrine Jenkins (2003).

James worked for New Jersey Transit as a bus driver for several years. He spent his final years in the Park Crescent Rehabilitation Center in East Orange, New Jersey. Despite his health issues, James kept his fun-loving, jovial spirit that lifted the spirits of others around him.

Jame loved his family! During his healthier years, He would sometimes take two or more buses to visit his family. He was always dressed to impress whenever you saw him. James could always be counted on to be the life of the party. He had a great singing voice. He loved to sing, dance, cook, and watch Western movies.

James is survived by his son, Rahjai Pugh daughter, Andrea Harris; sisters, Diane Moss, Jane Lyons (Trent), Gloria Withers, Janet Mateo; and Karen Washington-Watley as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who affectionately called him “Pig.”

A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
