Luis Alberto Sanchez

Luis Alberto Sanchez Sr. (87) went to rest in eternal peace on Resurrection Sunday, April 9th, 2023 surrounded by loving family. Born June 21,1935 to Blanca and Armando Sanchez in Ecuador, Luis immigrated alone to the United States at just seventeen years old with only a few dollars, a sweater, and the tenacity to establish a life in America.

Mr. Sanchez married Onelia Rodriguez. Together they raised three children: Sulema, Luis Jr., and Jesus David. First settling in the Bronx, NY, Luis and Onelia moved their family to Passaic, NJ in 1970. Mr. Sanchez spent the majority of his career in the food service industry, having successfully developed and operated two restaurants. As a result of his professional passions, his family enjoyed countless delicious feasts and treats prepared by Chef Luis.

Luis A. Sanchez Sr. was predeceased by his wife Onelia Sanchez (5-18-2016); his children, Sulema (1-16-2018) and Jesus David (8-5-2019); brothers Flavio and Julio; and his sisters, Betty and Elsa. He is survived by siblings Carmen, Norma, Amanda and Manolo, and many loving nieces and nephews. He built a large and beautiful family, and leaves behind son, Luis A. Sanchez Jr., and his wife Margaret; grandchildren, Erica, Jessica, Adam, Luis III, Karissa, William, and Armond; as well as, great-grandchildren Amalia, Antonio, Tiago, Onelia, and Silas.

He is most notably remembered for his quick wit and gregarious personality. His family fondly remembers the many meals, trips, and seemingly ordinary moments that Luis colored with his vibrant personality. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, April 15th, 2023 from 2:00pm-6:00pm in Funeraria Alvarez, 66 Passaic Avenue, Passaic NJ.
