At 8:48 pm on June 9th, 2017, our lovely "Magda Chahua" (71) sadly passed away after fighting a fierce battle with pancreatic cancer for a year and a half at St. Joseph Hospital in Paterson NJ. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Magda Chahua was born July 12th, 1945 in Lince, Peru, a district of Lima. She was birthed by her father, Patricio Osorio Chahua and her mother Consuelo Flores. She ultimately decided that life in the United States would be better; so she made the journey and eventually settled in Passaic, NJ, where she took a job in Amloid Corporation, a toy factory for many years. She married Makai Peter Chak, and had two children; Cauly Chak (February 2nd) and Jasmin Chak (March 21st). Magda would be described by friends and family as a true warrior and a soldier. She was considered a great woman by her friends, and family. She was filled with endless love, compassion, and never closed her doors on anyone. She was an open book filled with many words of wisdom, and always had a great story from her childhood in Peru. She was always fit for a conversation if one was in dire need of one. She never backed down from anyone, and always took a strong stance in her opinion. Her strong demeanor and attitude touched various peoples’ lives as her doors were always open for anyone, regardless of anything they ever did. But one must not forget the way she touched so many peoples’ lives. She was very compassionate and loving with her grandchildren; Michael, Peter, Angelo, and Isabella. She also enjoyed making her grandchildren their favorite dishes/dinners, such as, chuleta frita (fried pork chop), and Papa a la Huancaína (potatoes in cheese sauce), and finally white rice. She would never hesitate when asked by them; everything Magda did was always out of love. She also loved to take long walks throughout Main St. on Passaic, and waited for her grandchildren to get out of school, so that she could walk them back home. Magda had a great relationship with Cauly’s wife, Marisa Szeinberg, whom she loved very dearly, and the husband of Jasmin, Angelo DeVirgilio. Magda had an enormous family including an extended family as well. She is survived by brothers; Gustavo, Cesar Yrma, Jorge, and Hesten (deceased), stepbrothers; Raul, Oscar, and Alphonso, sisters; Martha, Iris, and stepsister; Teresa. She is also survived by sister-in law: Marisa Szeinberg, and brother-in law: Angelo DeVirgilio The Chak/Chahua/DeVirgilio would also like to thank Dr. Howard Benn for his dedication with our Magda until the very end, and the St. Joseph hospital and staff as well for their endless dedication. Thank you for doing everything in your power to let her live a “quality of life,” for as long as possible. Your efforts and dedication will never be forgotten, and we very much appreciate everything that was done. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13th, 2017 from 5:00pm-9:00pm in Funeraria Alvarez, 66 Passaic Avenue, Passaic NJ. Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 14th, 2017 at 10:30am in East Ridgelawn Cemetery, 255 Main Avenue, Clifton NJ.
