Maria Monserrate Cancel

Maria Monserrate Cancel (78), of Passaic, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 20, 2024. Maria is survived by her two daughters; Luz Tafuri, wife of Paul Tafuri; and Marilynn Diaz, wife of Eddie Diaz; and her two grandchildren, Jonathan Tafuri and Savannah Diaz. Maria was born on December 5, 1945 in San German, Puerto Rico. She lived in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico where she graduated from high school and later attended nursing school at the Escuela de Enfermeria y Ciencias de Salud. Maria came to the US in her twenties and became a blue collar worker in Passaic for a decade after which she dedicated herself to raising her two daughters. Maria loved to sew and enjoyed puzzle books. She will be missed and her memory will forever live in our hearts.

Services are scheduled for Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Funeraria Alvarez, 66 Passaic Avenue, Passaic NJ. Burial will take place on Friday, June 28th, 2024 at 10:00am in Crest Haven Memorial Park, 750 Passaic Avenue, Clifton NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to be made in Maria’s name to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
