Octavio Aguilar Rios (82), of Paterson, NJ died peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Hospital of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. Born on February 27, 1930 in Hatillo, Puerto Rico to Gregoria Rios and Ignacio Aguilar, and he had resided in Paterson since 1952. Octavio was a business owner in the City of Paterson for over 50 years and most notably, was the proprietor of “La Lechonera Bayamon” which was located in Paterson for over 40 years. Octavio was honored by the Puerto Rican Parade Committee of Paterson for his achievement as a long-time Puerto Rican business owner. Octavio was well known for his sense of humor, storytelling, and generosity for which he will surely be missed. Octavio is survived by his children, Gloria Velez (Puerto Rico), Edwin Aguilar (Puerto Rico), Jenny Aguilar (Paterson, NJ), Octavio Aguilar, Jr. (Paterson, NJ), Miriam E. Serrano (New Haven, CT), Rose N. Melendez (North Haven, CT) and Maribel Aguilar (New Haven, CT). Octavio is also survived by his brother Angel Aguilar (Union City, NJ), 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Octavio was predeceased by 2 brothers, 3 sisters and 1 grandchild. Visiting hours will take place on Friday, September 28th, 2012 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm in Funeraria Alvarez de Paterson, 267 Park Avenue, Paterson NJ 07513. Burial will take place in Cementerio La Santa Cruz, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
