Prudencia Velez

Prudencia Velez, 96, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend of Paterson, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lares, Puerto Rico, Prudencia, affectionately known as “Puda,” made Paterson her home for more than 65 years. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Pablo Velez, who passed away 31 years ago. Her family was the center of her life, and she will be remembered for her love, strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those around her. Prudencia is survived by her loving children: Ana Iris Melgar and her husband, Gustavo; Edwin Velez and his wife, Jacqueline; Paul Velez; and Daniel Velez. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy and cherished memories throughout her life. Prudencia’s love and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Funeraria Alvarez, 66 Passaic Avenue, Passaic, NJ 07055. As a breast cancer survivor, Prudencia held this cause close to her heart. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in her memory to a breast cancer organization or charity of your choice. May she rest peacefully and forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
