Roberto Alencar Freire

Roberto Alencar Freire (89) of White Plains, NY, passed away on April 15th, 2024. Married to Eunice (née Morais) for 67 years and the father of one daughter and four sons. A native of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, Roberto immigrated with his family in 1965, leaving everything he knew behind for a new adventure, which led him to the profession of gold casting. He worked into his 70s, and even produced several items for the Smithsonian Institute. Roberto was a man who understood and embraced the gospel of Christ and, by grace, grew in his passion for God, his Word, and his Church. As a lay preacher for over six decades, Roberto taught the Bible in the tri-state area in three different languages and passionately extolled the virtues of Christ the Redeemer. In his later years he contributed to the translation of numerous Christian books into the Portuguese language. Roberto lived an active life of exercise, cycling, and swimming.

In America, he lived with his growing family in Newark, Kearny, and Clifton, NJ, before settling in Woodland Park, NJ, where he retired. Roberto & Eunice spent his last eight years with their youngest son’s family in White Plains, NY. He was an active member of New Hope Fellowship in Tarrytown, NY. He enjoyed traveling back to his home in Brazil as often as possible. Roberto was in good health until three months before his death, and was certain of his soul’s destiny. Though his family mourns their loss, they know that it is well with his soul.

Roberto is survived by the wife of his youth, Eunice, his son Jader and wife Olga of Towaco, NJ, his daughter Loide Mendoza and husband Rob of Wimauma, FL, his son Jair and wife Angela of Manhattan, NY, his son Paulo and wife Lisa of Wantage, NJ, and son Robert and wife Delimar of White Plains, NY, along with 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as dear relatives in South America. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Jair, and his parents, José Guedes Freire and Francisca Freire. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the New Hope Fellowship (@ The Reformed Church of the Tarrytown) 42 N Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591.
